Spicy onion curry is a quick and easy south Indian curry, a delicious side dish to enjoy with poori or chapati’s. A simple and tasty curry can be prepared in a short time, onion is the main ingredient in the curry, adding tomatoes is optional, a coconut based south Indian curry which is a perfect combination for chapati or poori’s.

Ingredients

Onion – 4 medium (thinly sliced)

Tomato – 1 medium (optional)

Coriander – 1 small bunch chopped

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Chilly powder – 1 tsp ( adjust to your taste)

Coriander powder – 1/4 tsp

Salt

Salt

To grind –

Coconut – 1/2 cup

Poppy seeds – 3/4 tsp

Garlic – 2 or 3 pods

Ginger – 1 small piece

Clove – 2 no’s

Cinnamon – 1 or 2 small pieces

Cooking Procedure

n Keep all the ingredients ready to start. Add the ingredients to grind, blend it without adding water, until all the ingredients gets powdered, then add water to grind, blend it to a smooth paste, and keep it ready.nn Heat a pan by adding oil in it, when it is hot add chopped onion and coriander, fry until onion turns to golden brown in colour.nn Add tomato (optional), fry until it get soft.nn Add  spice powders, toss it well.nn Add grounded paste into it, fry it for a while, add 1/2 cup of water, salt to taste.nn Bring it to boil for 3 to 4 min in a medium flame, close the lid of the pan, cook it in a medium flame.nn Bring the curry to a thick in consistency.nn Switch of the flame. Rest it for 5 to 10 min before you serve.n
