About Recipe

A healthy low calorie side dish for idli, dosa, roti or rice.

Ingredients

1 Cup Celery (cut into small pieces)

1 small Roma tomato

1/4 Cup Fresh cilantro/ coriander leaves with stalks

1 tablespoon Urad dal/ Black gram

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

2 - 3 Green chillies

2 garlic cloves big

1 inch piece ginger

half inch size 2 - 3 tamarind pieces

2 - 3 teaspoons of oil

Salt to taste

1/2 teaspoon Jaggery/brown sugar (optional)

Cooking Procedure

n  nn 1. Clean and cut the celery into small pieces.nn 2. Heat a pan on medium heat and add oil. nn 3. When the oil is hot add cumin seeds, let them splutter.nn 4. Reduce the heat to low, add the urad dal and fry till it starts to turn pink, now add the cut green chilli, ginger and garlic. Fry for25 -30  secs. nn 5. Add the fresh cilantro/coriander and fry for 30secs.nn 6. Remove this urad dal mixture into a plate leaving the oil in pan and keep a side.nn 7. Now add the remaining oil and fry the celery pieces on low flame. Add salt.nn 8. When the celery is 3/4 th done add the cut tomato and tamarind pieces. Cook till tomato becomes mushy. Let it cool before grinding.nn 9. Grind the urad dal mixture into a coarse powder, add the cooled celery tomato mixture and grind to a smooth chutney, add water as required.n
