Goan Fish Curry

Ingredients

1 Kg Fish Cut into Medium Size Pieces

9 Medium Sized Red Chillies

3 Medium Sized Onions Cut Vertically into Thin Pieces

4 Green Chillies Sliced Vertically

2 Table Spoons Seasame Seeds

1/2 Cup Coconut Powder

1 Lemon Sized Tamarind Soaked in 1 Cup Water

1 Tea Spoon Cumin Seeds

1 Tea Spoon Fenugreek Seeds

3 Tea Spoons Red Chilly Powder

2 Tea Spoons Salt

1/2 Tea Spoon Turmeric

1 Cup Coconut Milk, prepare by grinding fresh coconut adding water and taking out pulp.

2 Tea Spoons Coriander Powder

3 Medium Sized Tomatoes Sliced Vertically

2 Table Spoons Vinegar

1/2 Cup Coriander Leaves

2 Tea Spoons Ginger Garlic Paste

1 Medium Sized Cup of Edible Oil

Cooking Procedure

Squeeze out the water from cleaned Fish pieces and it to a bowl along with Red Chilly Powder, 1 Tea Spoon Salt, 1/4 Tea Spoon Turmeric, 1 Tea Spoon Ginger Garlic Paste. Mix them well and keep it aside for later use.

Heat 1 Table Spoon Oil in a non stick pan and fry all the fish pieces on both sides until pieces turn golden brown.

Keep the fried fish aside.(Note: Frying fish will take off the smell from Fish and also helps in Fish not breaking while cooking. )Take a separate pan or bowl and fry Seasame seeds, Cumin Seeds, Fenugreek Seeds until they turn golden brown color.Add Fried Seasame Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Fenugreek Seeds, Red Chillies, Coriander Powder, Coconut Powder, Vinegar to a grind and make paste of it.

Transfer this paste to a bowl and add Thick Tamarind Juice (Squeezed from Soaked Tamarind by throwing away pulp), 1 Tea Spoon Ginger Garlic Paste, 1/4 Tea Spoon Turmeric, Salt and mix well.

Keep this mixture aside for later use.Heat Oil in a wide Pan and fry Onion until the color changes to golden brown color. Add Tomatoes to the fried Onions and let it cook for 10 minutes on low heat.

After 10 minutes add paste mixture prepared above to the Tomatoes cooking in the pan and let it cook for another 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes add Coconut Milk, Green Chillies and let it cook for another 5 minutes.After gravy turns thick add Coriander Leaves, Fried Fish and let Fish cook for 5 minutes on medium heat.

Do not stir the curry much as the Fish can break into smaller pieces which can spoil the taste.
